You Can Use A Common Bathroom Product To Polish Your Silver
By LUCY CLARK
Over time, silver reacts with the elements around it — oxygen, water, and the oils in your skin, for example — and begins to oxidize and tarnish. This tarnish will start to turn your silver items black or brown, and can eventually start to damage the integrity of the metal underneath.
Any toothpaste that is specifically non-abrasive and not a gel can be an incredibly effective, gentle, and cost-efficient way to clean your silver items. Baking soda is also a natural silver cleaner, so a baking soda-based toothpaste would be extra effective.
Remove any surface debris from the silver, apply a small amount of toothpaste to a soft, non-scratching cloth, and buff off the tarnish with slow and gentle circular movements. Let the toothpaste sit for at least five minutes (but not too long) and rinse it off with clean water, either under a gentle stream or using a fresh damp cloth.
