Why You'll Want To Start Adding Wine To Your Compost Pile
By ROBYN HUNT
Adding wine to your compost pile can speed up the decomposition of organic materials, making the composting process more efficient and nutrient-rich.
The high sugar content and acidic nature of the wine make it a good compost activator, providing food for beneficial microorganisms and creating a supportive environment for them.
Red wine, in particular, is known to get along really well with beneficial bacteria. Moreover, the presence of yeast in wine can boost composting by adding liquid and nitrogen.
However, caution must be exercised as adding too much wine can overwhelm these bacteria, lead to excess moisture, and even stop the composting
process altogether.
