Why You Should Start Adding Flour To Your Compost Pile
By KATE NICHOLSON
Several baking ingredients have been known to boost soil health. Plain wheat flour is no exception, releasing a large amount of nutrients into your compost as it breaks down.
Flour is a great source of nitrogen, which the University of Florida notes as one of the two core components of a healthy compost. It also contains carbs, amino acids, and more.
These nutrients have proven plant-growth-boosting benefits, such as improving healthy cell-wall formation and chlorophyll production. Without them, plants look stunted and ill.
Sprinkle the flour over your compost to add it to your pile without accidentally suffocating it. It meshes well with all types of composts, including long-game cold or hot systems.
