Why People Are Burying Their Garden Hose (& Should You?)
By A. R. HOPKINS
Garden hoses can be difficult to hide and quite the eyesore. In an attempt to disguise the bulky equipment and boost curb appeal, people have taken to burying them underground.
To use this hack, first make sure your hose can handle being buried. Since soil can be heavy, the hose must be either the standard rubber or a soaker style to resist its weight.
Then, dig a trench no deeper than 12 inches and no shallower than 6 inches, and place the hose inside. Test the water pressure and adjust for kinks before filling in the hole.
Although this hack is usually safe, people in certain climates should proceed with caution. If you live in an area with cold snaps, your hose will freeze along with the ground.
This’ll cause the hose to crack when it thaws in the spring. People living in areas of extreme heat should also refrain from using this tip, as it can cause the hose to break down.
Soil type can also complicate things, as hard, rocky soil may require power tools to dig the trench. The hose water might also draw underground pests, like moles, to your lawn.
