Why Giving Lavender Enough Space To Grow Is Really Important
By TRICIA GOSS
Lavender plants need ample space to grow in order to develop a robust root system and ward off diseases, which is essential to their hardiness.
When spacing your lavender plants, consider the mature size of your lavender variety, its growth rate and sunlight requirements, and your soil conditions.
For English lavender, individual plants should typically be spaced 12 to 18 inches apart. French lavender tends to be slightly larger, benefitting from a spacing of 2 to 3 feet.
Arrange lavender in rows or clusters, maintaining the recommended spacing between individual plants for a neat look that also ensures proper plant development.
When using pots for lavender, consider the size of the container and the specific variety you're growing. Typically, it's best to plant only one lavender plant per pot.
Keep an eye on the growth of your lavender. If the stems start to intertwine, your plants are likely planted too close together, and it may be necessary to adjust the spacing.
