What Coffee Grounds Can Do For Your Bird Feeder
By MICHAEL ALEXANDER UCCELLO
The used coffee grounds you usually throw away after brewing your daily cup of joe can act as a deterrent to keep squirrels away from your birdfeeder.
Squirrels don't like the smell of coffee, so sprinkling a one-inch layer of grounds around your bird feeder can keep them away. Any type of grounds work, so long
as they are used.
The coffee grounds won't cause any harm to the squirrels; it merely keeps them away through the smell, making this a humane method.
Snails and slugs, ants, mosquitoes, skunks,
and chipmunks are also repelled by coffee grounds. However, be careful if you have pets, as caffeine can be toxic to dogs and cats.
