Use This IKEA Hack For A More Creative Way To Hang Outdoor Plants
By KATE NICHOLSON
If you’d like to create a pocket garden but only have a postage-stamp backyard, patio, or balcony, you can take advantage of horizontal and vertical areas with this IKEA hack.
First, pick up the Hutten nine-bottle wine rack ($17.99), six 4 ¼-inch Bintje plant pots ($0.79 each), and wood stain from IKEA, and then a 16-pack of flat S-hooks ($13 on Amazon).
If you're a renter, buy removable adhesive tape (under $9 at Walmart) or waterproof 3M Command strips (about $7 at Lowe's). You’ll also need a paintbrush, drill, and drill bit set.
Now, coat the racks with paint or stain and let them dry for about 24 hours. Drill a hole in each planter near the top, using a bit larger than the diameter of the hooks.
With a white vinegar and water solution or rubbing alcohol, clean the area of the wall where you'll mount the rack, and attach the tape strips to the back of the racks.
Finally, press the racks onto the wall, waiting an hour before hanging your planters. Now, all you need to do is buy your favorite edible plants and insert them into the pots.
