Use Hydrogen Peroxide To Easily Remove Grime From A Wood Deck
By NICK POLISHCHUK
If you are tired of slipping on the deck after it rains, you can blame the green grime, also known as algae. Not only is it a fall hazard, but it also damages the wood over time.
To remove algae, use hydrogen peroxide, a corrosive oxidizing compound that kills organisms. When added to algae-infested water in proper concentrations, it can stop the growth.
Be sure to wear gloves and safety goggles. After clearing the deck, sweep it with a broom, pour some peroxide onto it, and scrub it thoroughly with a stiff-bristled brush or broom.
If you see peroxide bubbling, it means it's eradicating the organisms. Scrape off the foam, discard it, repeat until the area is treated, and then rinse the deck with a hose.
