Upgrade Your IKEA KALLAX With This Hack That Adds Extra Storage
By ERIKA DALE
Everyone loves an IKEA hack, and this simple DIY Kallax shelf project is perfect for expanding your storage. Add a base, top trim, and a sliding barn door for a chic upgrade.
For this project, you will need a 2x4 Kallax cabinet. Use a multi-tool to remove the two upper shelves for hanging space, and add a piece of plywood to the back for stability.
Cut and secure lumber to the top and bottom to raise the unit to your desired height; cover these boards with MDF for a finished look. Caulk where the Kallax meets the plywood.
Sand and wipe down the entire unit, then apply primer and two coats of paint. Once dry, attach the barn door and a cabinet pull; style it with storage baskets and a hanging rail.
