The materials for this DIY project add up to less than $20 — all you need are some jumbo craft sticks, wood glue, sanding materials, wood stain, and poly water-based sealant.
First, wash your cabinet and remove any hardware. Cut off the rounded ends of the craft sticks and glue them in a herringbone design on your cabinet drawers, leaving an overhang.
Cover the sticks with parchment paper and a board to prevent them from warping, and let them dry overnight. The next day, remove the excess wood with a jigsaw, sand, and stain.
Coat the design with wood filler to smooth the gaps between the sticks. Cover the whole cabinet with a poly water-based sealer before painting and adding the hardware.
Use extra sticks, molding, or other wood pieces as trim around the herringbone. Cut the sticks shorter for a woven look, or arrange them side-by-side for a ribbed effect.
