Tips For Maintaining A Gravel Garden In Your Backyard

Properly maintaining a gravel garden starts with keeping stray leaves away, which can clutter up walkways and cause some of the lighter-colored stones to lose their natural color.
The best way to remove leaves without upheaving the gravel is to use a leaf blower. To avoid creating any potential bald spots, use your leaf blower on the lowest setting.
Effective weed control starts with creating a weed barrier using landscape fabric before laying the gravel down. Note that this only works with plants that don't need to self-seed.
To maintain a low-maintenance gravel garden, choose plants that thrive in such conditions and demand little care, such as catmint, evening primrose, rockrose, and lavender.
Be sure to take into account the type of gravel you're using. For instance, if you have limestone in the garden, it's best not to grow plants that thrive in acidic conditions.
