The Truth About John Combe From Home Town
By NINA ROGOFF
People know John Combe from Season 4, Episode 6, “The Sky’s the Limit,” of HGTV's “Home Town” series, but when the episode aired, the credits included a heartbreaking message saying, “In loving memory of John Combe.” There is very little information available about Combe, but he did share that his father had been in the Air Force and his family lived in many places.
Combe told “Home Town” hosts Erin and Ben Napier that he was tired of living in big cities and revealed, “Money’s not a problem for me. The sky’s the limit,” which is where the name for Episode 6 came from. Combe worked with the Napiers to buy a 1950s home in Laurel, Mississippi, for $199,000, and he specifically wanted a good kitchen, since he enjoyed cooking.
Sadly, Combe passed away at 70 years old on April 4, 2020, of natural causes in a hospital about 30 miles away from Laurel. Combe was the first “Home Town” client with an unlimited renovation budget, and he gushed over the Napiers, saying “They're just two very special people, and I love the little town of Laurel.”
