The Perfect Companion Plant For Flowering Iris Bulbs

Irises, which come in over 250 species, flourish in hot summer weather. They don't grow from seeds or bulbs but from rhizomes that spread horizontally under the soil.
Due to their rhizome system, it's important to find a companion plant that won't cover, shade, or overcrowd them. Alliums stand out among the rest for doing great with irises.
Alliums are easy to grow, come in various heights and sizes, and have minimal foliage that won't overpower, shade, or crowd the irises. Both plants love sunny, well-drained soil.
Alliums, which bloom in late spring and early summer, should be planted in the fall along with irises to give them time to get established before the cold weather sets in.
