The Patio Roof That Turns Your Backyard Into A Nature Oasis
By ETHAN HARRISON SMITH
Installing a clear polycarbonate roof or awning is a simple DIY project that offers a more natural and comfortable feel to your backyard and turns the area into a serene oasis.
You can buy polycarbonate sheets at any hardware store. For installation, you'll need a drill, tape measure, circular saw or jigsaw, a ladder, screws, washers, and safety gear.
Measure your project area and the sheets with a tape measure to ensure they fit your patio or porch. Remember to allow at least 50 millimeters extra for the gutter installation.
Before installing the roof, pre-drill holes for the screws, and decide if you want to cut the sheets to ensure they fit. Then, seal the edges of the sheets with polycarbonate tape.
Position the sheets onto the purlins, then secure them using screws and washers. It's possible to scratch these panels, so take care when handling and installing them.
