The Paint Trend That Gives Your Home A Whimsical Molding Look
By DANIELA KLEIN
To give your walls a cartoon-esque molding look without actually mounting strips of molding, simply paint the shape of molding onto them. There are many ways to go about the hack.
For instance, you could simply pick up a brush and start painting panels onto your walls or faintly draw the outlines in pencil or chalk and use them as a guide to freehand over.
You can use a laser level to give yourself a plumb line to paint along. For crisp edges and super straight lines, tape out your shapes using painter's tape and paint in the lines.
To avoid bleeding edges, seal the painter's tape with some of your existing wall color paint before painting. For more detailing, use stencils, stamps, or embossing rubber rollers.
You can use faux, painted-on molding to outline hung art and furniture pieces or add detail to real molding. If you ever tire of the cheeky look, you can easily paint over it.
