The Ornamental Grass You'll Want In Your Yard To Attract Birds

Ornamental grass like blue fescue (Festuca glauca) attracts birds with its blueish-gray appearance, providing them with cover, nesting material, and seeds they enjoy eating.
It’s drought-tolerant but benefits from water in very hot and dry conditions. Blue fescue grows best in zones 4 through 9 with full sun and well-drained, sandy or rocky soil.
Blue fescue is also salt-tolerant, making it ideal for coastal regions. Apply light fertilizer in spring and trim any damaged or dead foliage to promote new and healthy growth.
