The Minty Scent That Doubles As
A Powerful Tick-Repellent
By KATIE FRANCIS
Ticks often enter your home by hitching a ride on you or your pet. Fortunately, just a bit of peppermint oil on your clothing will serve as the ultimate DIY tick-repellent.
These nuisances despise the pungent scent of peppermint. To create your own deterrent, mix 4 tablespoons of water with an equal amount or more of peppermint oil in
a spray bottle.
The more oil you use, the stronger the repellent will be. Shake the spray bottle well before spraying the solution on the outer layer of your clothes and exposed skin.
Since the scent fades after washing your clothes, you'll need to reapply it. You can save costs by spraying the repellent mainly on your arms, legs, and other exposed areas.
While pets are susceptible to ticks, peppermint oil is toxic to them if it comes in contact with their skin or if ingested, so don't be tempted to use it on their neck or collar.
