The Kitchen Scrap That'll Give Orchids A Bloom Boost
By DANIELLE RAMOS-SULLIVAN
Although generally low-maintenance, orchids do benefit from a nutrient boost during their active growth periods. Luckily, you can use rice water as a fertilizer to help them bloom.
Similar to store-bought fertilizers, rice water contains a balanced ratio of nutrients and vitamins that promote foliage, root, and flower growth to help your orchids thrive.
The water’s starch content also gives orchids an energy boost, which helps their growth. Plus, it enriches the soil by promoting beneficial bacteria for a healthy
root environment.
To use, pour rice water directly into the pot, or apply it using a spray bottle once a month. Be sure not to over-fertilize your orchid, which can cause root rot and attract pests.
