The Household Essential That'll Get Rid Of Paint On Metal Surfaces
BY SANDY BAKER and JACQUELINE DELIBES
It’s important to strip paint off of metal objects like door locks or hinges as the paint can result in functional problems, such as the hinge not rotating properly anymore.
However, instead of using toxic paint thinners or an angle grinder to remove dried paint, you can use a vinegar and baking soda mixture as a natural and effective paint remover.
Heat 2 ounces of white vinegar and 4 cups of water in a pan. Once it begins to boil, apply it to the surface of the metal and let it sit before scrubbing it with a wire brush.
For the leftover paint, boil 1 quart of water with a ¼ cup of baking soda. Transfer it to the metal surface once it boils and allow it to sit before you scrub it again.
Remember to wear gloves and use eye protection for this process. Keep the kids and pets out of the area, and open the windows for ventilation, or handle this project outdoors.
