The Fresh-Smelling Ingredient That'll Clean
& Shine A Leather Sofa
By ALIA HOYT
When your leather sofa needs a thorough cleaning, especially if it’s been stained by a wine spill or permanent marker, eucalyptus oil can come to the rescue.
Eucalyptus has antibacterial properties that make it effective in treating coughs, arthritis, and other ailments, and these same forces make it a powerful cleaner and deodorizer.
Before cleaning your leather couch with eucalyptus oil, first test a drop or two somewhere inconspicuous on the couch, and if the leather doesn't change color, you can go ahead.
Blot the stain to remove excess liquid or pigment, then put a small amount of eucalyptus oil on a clean, dry cloth and gently wipe the stain. Repeat until the stain disappears.
For mold stains, add one part eucalyptus oil to four parts water in a spray bottle, spray the mixture onto a cloth, then gently wipe the stain. Let it air-dry before repeating.
To rejuvenate worn leather, mix 10 drops of eucalyptus oil with ¼ cup each of vinegar and coconut oil. Massage this into the leather with a toothbrush, then wipe with a dry cloth.
