The Correct Way To Easily Sharpen A Serrated Knife
By HALEY CHAVEZ
Avoid the frustration and risk of injury from using a dull serrated knife by learning to sharpen it correctly. While different from sharpening a flat knife, it’s easy to learn.
Sharpening a serrated knife is more challenging, as you must sharpen each groove with a sharpening rod. It takes time, but you won’t have to sharpen it as often as a flat blade.
You'll notice the grooves are indented on one side and flush with the blade on the other side. The indented side, or the beveled side, is the side that needs to
be sharpened.
Hold the knife perpendicular to the sharpening rod, with the beveled side against the rod. Slide the rod back and forth against each of the knife’s teeth in each individual groove.
Finally, remove buildup, or a burr, on the non-beveled side of the blade by running the non-beveled side of the knife along the sharpening rod, just as you’d sharpen a flat blade.
