The Best Way To Wash An Electric Blanket
By DARBY STARK
Electric blankets are a cozy way to stay warm during the winter, but they can still collect dust, hair, and debris like any other normal blanket. Chemicals used at the dry cleaners can actually damage your blanket, so the best ways to clean it are by machine or by hand.
Make sure to check your blanket’s tag to see if it’s washing machine safe, and then unplug and remove any cords. Use a mild detergent and cold water on the shortest and most gentle cycle of your machine, and most blankets can actually be placed in the dryer for about 10 minutes with low or no heat, as well.
To hand wash your blanket, submerge it in a tub with cold water and a small amount of mild detergent for 10 to 15 minutes, and squeeze out any water; repeat and let air dry without bending any wiring. For tough stains, use an equal mixture of water and white vinegar, or use a sponge and dish soap for oil and grease stains.
