The Best Way To Remove Fried Food Smells From Your Kitchen
By MADISEN SWENSON
Frying food such as fish can leave bad smells lingering in your kitchen. Luckily, you can save the day with just two kitchen ingredients: cinnamon and white vinegar.
Vinegar seems to be able to do it all, including the ability to neutralize alkaline scent-carrying particles. This occurs when it releases acidity into the air.
However, vinegar has its own unpleasant aroma to deal with. Using cinnamon alongside it will dissolve nasty food odors and leave your home with a cozy, inviting smell.
To use this effective combo, add 5 to 6 tablespoons of vinegar and some cinnamon sticks to a few cups of water. Bring it to a boil and reduce the heat until it just simmers.
Alternatively, you can add this mixture to a slow cooker set on low heat. This will produce steam that should distribute the vinegar and cinnamon aroma throughout your kitchen.
Regardless of the method used, make sure to top off with water as needed. Once the odors have been neutralized, pour the water down the drain, taking care to strain solids.
For best results, use whole cinnamon sticks and distilled white vinegar instead of red wine or balsamic. Apple cider vinegar is also an option that goes well with cinnamon.
For an on-hand solution to use on other surfaces, simmer this mixture in a pot for a few minutes, straining the liquid mixture, letting it cool, and adding it to a spray bottle.
