Broadleaf plantain has been known for ages for its medicinal and edible qualities, but today it is mostly seen as a weed that makes pretty lawns look bad.
The most natural option for killing broadleaf plantain, like any weed, is to pull up the root by hand. Its roots don't extend very deep into your dirt, but you need to get it all.
Another organic choice is a mixture of vinegar, Epsom salts, and dish soap. Be careful the solution doesn't touch anything but the weed, as it can make any plant wither.
If the infestation is more widespread, natural solutions won't necessarily do the job. In this case, the West Virginia University Extension recommends using herbicides.
It’s best to apply the weed-killing formula in the late fall. If you notice individual plants cropping up in the spring, tackle them right away by dousing them with glyphosate.
