The Best Tricks to Keep Gas Stove Grates Grime-Free And Clean
By Camille Moore
Ammonia
Ammonia offers a fairly easy cleaning method for your grates. Soak overnight in zipper-top bags, rinse in the morning, and you might not even need to scrub.
Dish Soap
Dish soap works great as a cleaner because of its surfactants, the molecules in the detergent that break down and separate grease from the surface of the grates.
Baking Soda
Baking soda's alkaline base helps break up the fatty acids in grease, which neutralizes them and makes them easier to wipe away. The soda also acts as a mild abrasive.
Dishwasher
Perhaps the easiest cleaning method, Maytag suggests putting your grates in the bottom rack and selecting the deepest cleaning cycle your machine offers.
Degreasers
Degreasers contain surfactants that break down fatty acids. They're different from soap and all-purpose cleaners in that they target organic soils like fat and oil.
