The Backyard Wood Pallet DIY Your Dogs Will Absolutely Love
By CHRISTY RAE AMMONS
If you use wood pallets, it won’t cost a lot to build a sturdy dog house for your garden that your pet can enjoy relaxing in, and you can easily customize it to fit any size dog.
You’ll need four or five wood pallets, plywood sheathing panels, a drill or nail gun, screws or nails, sandpaper, a saw, insulation, roof repair fabric, and wood stain or paint.
First, sand all of the wood smooth. For the floor, use a pallet about the size you want the dog house to be, and nail a sheet of plywood over it so it’s comfortable to walk on.
Use pallets to build the walls around the floor, leaving an entrance in front. Make the front or back wall higher than the other so the roof slopes, allowing rain to run off.
Next, nail plywood sheets all around the exterior of the pallet frame to close all the gaps, add foam board insulation along the interior walls, then nail plywood sheets over it.
For the roof, nail a plywood sheet over a pallet the same size as the floor, attach the roof to the top of the walls, and nail roofing fabric over it. Finish with a coat of paint.
