Suppress Garden Weeds With This Gold & Green Ground Cover
By A. R. HOPKINS
Finding ground cover that flourishes in shade can be hard, but you’re in luck: Green-and-gold’s vibrant foliage and weed-suppressing abilities are perfect for dimly lit gardens.
Green-and-gold thrives in partial shade within hardiness zones five through nine. It prefers to be planted in spring or fall, and it can reach between 6 and 12 inches in height.
Plant the seedlings at least 12 inches apart in damp but not waterlogged soil. The low-maintenance plant does not require fertilizer and can survive on rainwater.
As it grows, green-and-gold will crowd out any weeds surrounding it. Since it spreads rapidly, you’ll need to periodically remove any shoots that pop up outside the growing area.
