Choose Pet-Safe Plants
Remove harmful plants from your patio such as lilies, azaleas, and oleanders. These can cause illness or death in pets, so replace them with pet-safe plants.
Pet-friendly plants include marigolds, snapdragons, fennel, and rosemary. Not only do these plants add color and life to a patio, but they can withstand attention from your pets.
Install Fencing
Securing the perimeter of your patio with a fence prevents your pets from wandering into perilous zones such as busy roads or unfamiliar neighbors' yards.
A low fence can contain small breeds while allowing them to enjoy the view and fresh air. A higher fence is essential if you're the owner of a larger dog breed that jumps high.
Set Up A Shaded Area
Shaded areas on your patio are havens that will keep your pets safe and cool while offering relief from heat that may cause heatstroke, dehydration, or sunburn.
Patio umbrellas are easy to install and can be moved around as needed for shade. Pergolas are more permanent structures that are great if you want a more substantial shade option.
