Simple Tricks To Eliminate Dusty Basement Odors
By CAMILLE MOORE
Charcoal
Charcoal absorbs odors and is safe to use. Place an open bag in your basement for a noticeable improvement in odor within six hours, and replace it every six months.
Cat Litter
The clay in cat litter absorbs odors, so put several open containers of it around your basement, and replace them regularly. You can even use scented litter.
Dryer Sheets
Put dryer sheets among the items stored in the basement to overpower odors. You can also put them in your vents, but replace them often to avoid creating a fire hazard.
Lemon
Mix water and lemon juice in a spray bottle, then spray it around your basement to give it a lemon-fresh scent. Its antifungal properties will also combat fungus and mildew.
Baking Soda
Place bowls of baking soda around your basement to reduce smells within 24 hours. Baking soda’s alkalinity neutralizes acidic odors, and you can add a scent if you like.
