Reconsider Planting This Invasive Flower To Attract Hummingbirds
By LAUREN KRYSTAF
Morning glories are beautiful and adored by hummingbirds but can be quite invasive and are considered noxious weeds in some states. They are fast-growing vines that reseed easily.
Many species, like Ipomoea purpurea, are not native to the U.S. and can quickly outcompete local plants. Even when grown in containers, the plants often drop seeds below them.
While manageable in colder regions where the annual plants’ vines die once temperatures drop, many species can perennialize in zones 10 and higher, making removal more challenging.
