Pest Control
By EMILY RAY
Diatomaceous earth dehydrates insects and wounds them with its abrasive silica particles, making it a non-toxic solution for eliminating common pests like ants and bed bugs.
When applying the powder, cover your body and wear protective gear, such as eyewear and a dust mask, since exposure can cause irritation to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system.
Moreover, keep children and pets away from treated areas, and minimize foot traffic, especially on hardwood floors, as they can become slippery even with a
light coating.
Inhalation can cause coughing and shortness of breath, so use a bagged vacuum for cleanup to prevent dust from spreading, and never apply diatomaceous earth near fans or air ducts.
Always opt for food-grade or feed-grade products rather than pool-grade, as the latter is highly toxic, and read product labels for proper directions, precautions,
and warnings.
