Prevent Weeds From Taking Over Garden Beds With This White Flower
By ANNETTE HIRD
If you're looking for a natural and effective way to prevent weeds from taking over your garden beds, consider planting candytuft, a pretty groundcover with delicate white flowers.
Candytuft controls weed growth by covering the soil entirely with its stems and foliage, blocking sunlight from reaching the weeds’ seeds and preventing them from germinating.
Even if some weeds manage to sprout, candytuft's aggressive growth allows it to outcompete them for moisture and nutrients in the soil, thus preventing weeds from flourishing.
This low-maintenance perennial thrives in USDA zones 3 to 8 and prefers full sun but can handle some shade. It's both drought and salt tolerant, making it ideal for coastal areas.
In colder regions, it may die back in winter but will return in spring. For best results, grow candytuft in well-drained soil and trim it after flowering to promote
healthy growth.
