Prevent Rust Build-up On Your Pans With A Common Pantry Ingredient
By RHIANNON FAITH IRELAND
While scrubbing metal pots and pans with all your might may help you get rid of rust, it can also scratch your cookware. Try using tea bags to prevent rust altogether instead.
Once you have finished enjoying your cup of tea — preferably black tea — simply squeeze out any excess liquid from the bag, ensuring it remains damp.
Clean the pot or pan as normal and then take the tea bag and wipe it all over the surface, carrying out this step whenever you cook. Dry the pot or pan as usual.
This hack works because the tannins within tea effectively stop the metal construction of your pots and pans from oxidizing, thus preventing the formation of rust.
However, make sure your pots and pans are dried thoroughly and stored properly, in a moisture-free cupboard, after the application of tea bags, or they’ll still end up rusting.
