Keep Your Lemon Tree Happy And Healthy With This Yogurt Trick
By WILL FORD
Healthy lemon trees add a colorful pop of yellow, elevating the aesthetic of any room and offering edible fruit. To support the growth of these lovely plants, look to yogurt.
Adding yogurt to the soil of lemon trees fosters a robust environment for growth, as it contains beneficial bacteria, such as lactobacillus, which act as probiotics in the soil.
These bacteria help create a balanced and healthy microbial community in the soil, aiding in nutrient absorption and promoting the development of beneficial fungi.
To apply yogurt to the soil of a lemon tree, start by creating a yogurt solution. Mix 1 cup of plain, unsweetened yogurt with 1 quart of water for a well combined liquid mixture.
Gently pour the yogurt mixture onto the soil, ensuring it reaches the root zone. Make sure to apply the yogurt solution every four to six weeks during the growing season.
If there’s no notable improvement or if the soil appears to be healthy, reduce the frequency to once every few months to maintain the soil's microbial balance and nutrient content.
