Keep Your AC Clean And Running Smoothly With This Baking Soda Hack
By BRI AHEARN
Air conditioners come with different types of filters. Some, like those in mini-split units, can be washed, while others use disposable ones that need to be replaced every 90 days.
If your unit has a washable filter, you can clean it with this baking soda hack. First, turn off and unplug the AC, then remove the filter as per the manufacturer's instructions.
Then, vacuum the filter to remove as much buildup as possible. Next, mix 1 cup of vinegar with ½ cup of baking soda in 1 gallon of water no hotter than 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
Use this solution to lightly scrub the filter with a soft brush, or let it soak in the mixture for up to an hour. Afterward, let the filter air dry completely in a shaded area.
Once the filter is dry, place it back in the unit to keep your AC running efficiently and to prevent issues like overheating, higher energy bills, and poor air quality.
