This hack only requires a spray bottle, water, and pine oil solution. Flies are disgusted by the scent of pine oil, so you’ll be able to keep them away with this concoction.

The household cleaning solution Pine-Sol was once an effective way to get rid of pests and clean the home at the same time, because it contained 8.75% pine oil.

Most Pine-Sol bought in stores no longer use this essential ingredient, but you can order the original formula online or use pine essential oil.

Fill about ¾ of a spray bottle with water and add about 15 drops of essential pine oil. Add a few more drops for a stronger scent or fewer drops for a subtler smell.

Spray the mix onto your tables, window sills, doorways, or wherever you’ve seen flies, and allow it to dry for best results — it will still be effective for a time if you wipe it.

You don’t need to spray a lot since it’s the scent that keeps them away. You want to be careful, because large amounts of pine oil can be harmful to pets and humans if ingested.

This hack also works to repel other bugs like wasps and mosquitoes, and pine oil can also be used as an insecticide when you use a higher ratio of essential oil in the mix.
