Cinnamon
A 2008 study published in Bioresource Technology showed that cinnamon essential oil can kill ants quickly. Apply it to cotton balls and tuck them into cabinet corners.
Mint essential oil also kills ants, per a 2004 study published in the Journal of Economic Entomology. Add a few drops of it on cotton balls and place them around your kitchen.
Camphor essential oil (an active ingredient in Vicks VapoRub) is known to be one of the most effective natural ways to stop ants feeding and crawling around your kitchen.
Oregano contains linalool, which deters ants. While linalool is often used in commercial insect repellents, rather use a few drops of oregano essential oil mixed with water.
Lavender essential oil is a moderately effective insect repellent; however, it may not be powerful enough to deal with an established ant infestation in your kitchen.
