Is It Safe To Use Windex To Clean Your Wood Cabinets?
By MARCO ROSSI
Windex and other ammonia-based products are not recommended for cleaning wood cabinets, as ammonia is highly corrosive and can damage the protective finish of the cabinets.
Exposure to ammonia can also lead to the dulling or discoloring of the cabinets. If ammonia reaches the underlying wood, it can start to dissolve the wood, compounding the damage.
Additionally, if the wood cabinets are coated with a water-based finish, ammonia can cause the finish to turn white and cloudy, resulting in noticeable discoloration.
Although some advise diluting Windex with water, particularly for removing wax from wood, it's best to avoid using ammonia products on wood to stay on the safe side.
