How To Use Stoneguard To Protect Your Granite Countertops
By JACQUELINE DELIBES
Sealers protect a granite countertop from knife scratches and prevent oils and other liquids, along with bacteria, mold, and germs, from seeping into the granite's pores.
While sealers are traditionally liquid, Stoneguard is the brand name of a different type of sealer made from thin sheets of polyethylene film, which works well against spills.
The film used in Stoneguard also prevents acids like lemon and tomato sauce from chemically eating away at the natural stone and provides UV protection against the sun's rays.
Like liquid sealer, it needs periodic replacement but lasts at least two years if maintained well and has a lifetime warranty against discoloration, delamination, and bubbling.
To install Stoneguard, clear the countertop and clean it with mild, unscented, and dye-free dishwashing liquid and water. Then, call in the professional installers.
The professionals will clearly define the shape of the countertop edges with painter's tape, cut the film to size, adhere it to the stone, and use a squeegee to remove bubbles.
