How To Make A Homemade Mosquito Repellent
By ZACHARY MCCARTHY
Not only are mosquito bites very itchy, but they also transmit diseases and viruses like malaria and Zika. Most people go for store-bought bug repellents to keep mosquitoes at bay, but they can be pricey, so this is a DIY mosquito repellent you can make at home.
To make a homemade mosquito repellent spray, you’ll need distilled water, a base like rubbing alcohol or witch hazel, and plenty of essential oils. Citronella, lavender, and lemongrass essential oils specifically prevent mosquito bites, but keep in mind to mix the proper ingredients since you don’t want to irritate your skin.
Other options to repel mosquitoes are investing in a screen-in porch, creating citronella candles, and planting citronella plants in your backyard. Also, spray apple cider vinegar around the perimeter of your patio and add in some citronella candles or tiki torches for a mosquito-free environment.
