You’ll want about a 4-inch depth of fertile soil if you’re growing any plants, which can run from $12 to $55 per cubic yard. For a garden with 1,000 square feet, you’ll need about 12 cubic yards of soil for upwards of $660, not including essential worms and nutrients.

It might be worthwhile to hire a landscape designer to help you create your dream garden in a short amount of time. The average cost of a landscaper can range from $50 for simple lawn care to $7,000 for a full makeover, so be sure to estimate at least $1,000.

Small or big features can beautifully transform your yard. An arched trellis that gives support to plants with vines can range from $379.95 to $1,000, a simple raised garden bed can be $104.18 to $210.46, and greenhouse kits can be between $1,000 to $2,000.
The Plants Themselves
In addition to all the equipment and preparation, you’ll need to think about the cost of the plants. Seeds for flowers, herbs, and fruits are under $3, but trees, large shrubs, and specialty plants can be $150 to $300 — anything over 15 feet can be 10 times the price.
