How Lavender Can Keep Pesky Fleas

Flea bites can pose health risks, transmitting harmful bacteria to both pets and humans. Per the CDC, you can contract everything from the plague to tapeworms from these pests.
Instead of resorting to toxic pesticides, consider planting lavender or using its essential oil as a natural repellent. Put lavender in your yard where your pets like to frequent.
To repel fleas from your pets, mix 5 drops of lavender essential oil with 2 teaspoons of water. Apply some to their collar, or add drops to a bandana and tie it around their necks.
Since lavender repels — not kills — fleas, it's crucial to frequently reapply the fragrance. Avoid directly mixing the oils into your pet's fur or skin, as this could be harmful.
