How Joanna Gaines Protects Her Furniture From Messy Kids
By ALEXANDRA RODRIGUEZ
Anyone with kids knows that accidents are bound to happen, so interior designer and HGTV's "Fixer Upper" star Joanna Gaines suggests using Scotchgard to protect your furniture.
Gaines takes preventative measures and applies Scotchgard to her furniture, adding a protective shield that prolongs the fabric’s lifespan and saves her money in the long run.
Scotchgard creates a layer on top of fabric that prevents spills from causing permanent stains. Instead, liquids will bubble up on the surface so that they can easily be cleaned.
Scotchgard is odor-free and easy to use. First, spot test a hidden area of your furniture to ensure there’s no discoloration, then coat the surface with a thin, even layer.
Spray 6 inches away from the surface and allow it to dry fully before adding a second coat if you're covering a larger exterior. Avoid thick layers or the solution will flake.
Use the product outside or in a well-ventilated area to prevent inhaling the spray and reduce health risks. It's also best to wear a mask and apply it with children out of sight.
