How Dish Soap Can Keep Your Aloe Plant Aphid-Free
By ROCHELLE HEATH-HARRIS
To get rid of aphids on your aloe vera, mix liquid dish soap and water in a spray bottle. The soap disintegrates the waxy covering on their bodies and kills them.
Due to the solution's potency, test it on a small part of the plant first, then wait 24 hours to make sure it isn't going to burn or injure the leaves.
To further avoid burning the leaves, take the plants out of the sunlight in the early evening and leave them out of the sun for the following day before spraying.
Mix one to two spoons of dish soap and about one quart of water in a spray bottle and mist the entire stem, particularly the undersides of the leaves, so the plant is dripping.
Repeat the process every few days until the bugs are gone, and rinse off the plant afterward with plain water to remove any soapy residue that may break down the plant's cuticle.
