Here's Why You Should Save Corn Husks For Your Garden
By WILL FORD
Mulching is beneficial for a healthy garden: It conserves moisture in the soil by reducing evaporation, acts as a barrier in preventing weed growth, and regulates soil temperature.
Saving the husks and silk fibers from corn is a great way to create your own mulch. It's a simple and eco-friendly way to reuse your kitchen scraps and give back to your plants.
To use corn husks as gardening mulch, soak the husks in water until they are fully hydrated, and then spread them in a 2 to 3-inch layer over your garden to protect your plants.
Using corn husks as mulch benefits the garden because they are rich in organic matter and valuable nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium necessary for growth.
