Here's What Happens When You Put Baking Soda In Your Toilet
By KATE HAGAN GALLUP
Baking soda is a common household ingredient that seems to be in every cleaning concoction, and it’s incredibly useful for removing stains or unclogging a toilet. To remove hard water stains, one cup of vinegar and one cup of baking soda will do wonders, but when it comes to unclogging the toilet, it takes a bit more work.
Using heat and pressure changes can unclog a toilet, so pour around one cup of baking soda into the toilet bowl followed by a gallon of very hot water. You could also try adding one cup of baking soda while slowly pouring in a couple of cups of vinegar (making sure it doesn’t fizz over the bowl), and let it sit for two hours or overnight.
For tougher clogs, try cycling baking soda, hot water, and vinegar; flush and plunge as needed. This is a useful solution that fixes many toilet clogs, but if you think there are physical items like plastic or a medicine bottle cap, call a plumber immediately.
