Here's Exactly How To Clean Your Kitchen Sink Drain
By MEREDITH EASTWOOD
If you notice a stench coming from your kitchen sink, it’s most likely because of food particles, fats, and liquids stuck in the drain. When it comes to a blocked sink, the easiest option is to use a plunger, but if this doesn’t work, then you may need something more heavy-duty to put down the drain and break up the blockage.
Ideally, you want to prevent your kitchen sink from getting clogged, so it’s best to clean your drain once a week. Conventional drain cleaners contain a lot of chemicals, so some prefer to pour baking soda down the drain, let it sit for five minutes, then add boiling water to eliminate clogs.
If baking soda and water aren’t cutting it, you’ll need to combine one-third cup of baking soda with one-third cup of vinegar in a jug, and while it fizzes, quickly pour it down the blocked drain. Let the solution sit for 24 hours then pour plenty of boiling water down the drain, but if the blockage requires a more invasive treatment, use a wire coat hanger to break up debris.
