Grow Zinnia Flowers From Cuttings With These Helpful Propagation Tips
By NAOMI MEZA
Zinnias’ broad array of colors makes them a garden favorite. By following just a few simple steps, you can propagate their cuttings to create an abundance of the gorgeous flowers.
Use a sharp pair of garden shears to cut the flower at least 4 to 6 inches from the top of the plant and just below a node. Ideally, the stem should not have any flowers or buds.
Then, remove any leaves from the lower half of the stem to decrease water loss. Place the cutting in a jar filled with just enough water to cover where the leaves once were.
The jar must be placed in bright light, and after a few weeks, roots should start growing from the stem. This means the cutting is ready to be planted in soil for further growth.
Plant it in well-draining soil with at least six hours of full sun each day. Space the cuttings appropriately to allow for air circulation, and water them only in the morning.
