Pressure washing decks can damage wood and chemical cleaners may also harm it. Surprisingly, laundry detergent offers a gentler alternative for a squeaky clean deck.
This is because laundry detergent's surfactants and enzymes are effective against dirt and stains, making it a versatile cleaner that’s suitable
for various surfaces.
To make a potent deck cleaner, mix 1⁄2 a cup of powdered laundry detergent with 12 cups of hot water and 4 cups of bleach. Note that oxygen bleach is safer for the environment.
Apply the solution to your deck with a stiff brush, covering every part of the deck's surface. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes before scrubbing and rinsing.
