The cleaning products you choose for your hardwood floors are crucial. One effective, all-natural, and environmentally friendly option is a common essential oil: tea tree.
Tea tree oil contains a compound called terpinen-4-ol, which is very effective at stopping bacterial growth. Wood care experts note that the oil is effective for cleaning floors.
Watch out for the concentration of the oil in the cleaning solution because essential oils like tea tree often contain alcohol, which can damage wood floors in high concentrations.
Conduct a patch test on a small, less visible area of your floor. Then, mix a few drops of oil per gallon of water in a bucket for mopping, or spray it for smaller-scale cleaning.
